Is Gua Sha Worth The Hype?
One of the fastest-growing beauty trends has been the use of facial Gua Sha, a practice originating in China with so many beauty benefits.
Today, we deep dive into the frequently asked question: is using a gua sha tool worth it?
What is a gua sha?
Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, gua sha massage is used to promote healing and improve circulation; keeping energy flowing through your body.
The gua sha stone is smooth and rounded to fit the natural curvature of your face and neck area. It is typically formed from natural stones from the earth, which have the added benefit of targeted energy (like how Khalm Skincare® gua sha is made from obsidian- which stimulates growth and protection).
The Benefits of Gua Sha
Gua Sha facial massage has several benefits to enhance your natural beauty, such as detoxifying, relaxing, draining lymphatic fluid, reducing fine lines, and massaging the skin.
Detoxifying
Using a gua sha promotes lymphatic drainage and reduces puffiness. When you use the stone to push built-up fluid out of your face, it results in a clearer complexion. To achieve this effect, ensure you are always applying facial oil before massaging and pulling the gua sha from the inside of your face towards the outer edges (picturing the fluid getting pushed out).
Minimizing Acne
Daily use of a gua sha stimulates blood flow throughout the face. Working the dermal layers underneath the skin will help clear out congestion and help heal hyperpigmentation and reduce acne flare-ups.
Relaxation
Nighttime use of a gua sha will result in restful sleep. The stone feels like a natural massage, its light pressure relieves tight muscles and facial tension. Even our facial muscles can become stressed throughout the day, not only causing fine lines and wrinkles but also symptoms like headache pain, and sinus pressure. This will also aid in reducing the development of laugh or frown lines.
Natural Facelift
The stone is created to match the natural contours of the face. When you pull the gua sha in upward strokes, the skin is getting naturally lifted and sculpted, especially along the jawline and cheekbones. This is also fighting gravity (which naturally pulls our skin downward) to create a lifted effect, preventing future skin sagging.
How to use a Gua Sha?
Using the Gua Sha is quite simple. First, apply a few drops of Khalm Skincare® Overnight Oil Elixir and massage it all over your face and neck. Then, use Khalm Skincare® Obsidian Gua Sha and follow the map below to massage your face in an upward and outward motion.
